Every year, hundreds of thousands of people from around the world come to Scotland’s capital to see the military tattoo, and it is Pickering’s Gin they will be drinking!
To celebrate becoming the official gin of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (a series of military musical performances), Pickering’s has released this stronger version of their gin. Pickering’s is a suitable choice for the event, as it is distilled at Edinburgh’s historic Summerhall venue. When the distillery was constructed, it was the first exclusively gin distillery in the city for over 150 years.
Further emphasising the military connection, the gin is affectionately known as the “Bearskin” gin, and each bottle comes complete with a miniature version of the famous military headwear.
The gin itself is made to the same recipe as Pickering’s standard bottling, inspired by an original Bombay formula from 1947, which as passed down the generations in the Pickering family.
This gin is made with botanicals of are juniper, coriander, cardamom, angelica, fennel, anise, lemon, lime, and cloves. These ingredients are macerated in a neutral spirit in a bain marie controlled copper pot still. This still system means that the botanicals can be simmered very slowly, preserving their delicate, soft flavours.
Finally, the gin is bottled at the robust Navy Strength of 57.1% ABV, ensuring that the flavours can fully express themselves.
A gin that is certain to tattoo itself on your memory.
