A tasty coffee liqueur which has its history in the traditional Italian bar-order of “caffè corretto”.
“Caffè corretto”, or ‘corrected coffee’ in English, is a classic Italian beverage that pairs fresh espresso with a small amount of grappa or Sambuca. The amount of spirit can vary from a few drops to a whole shot.
This bottling combines Molinari’s anise flavoured Sambuca with coffee. Specifically, Robusta beans from Java, Togo and Congo are used in conjunction with Arabica beans from Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. This produces a well balanced final product, with the Arabica beans providing fragrance and flavour and the Robusta beans imparting bitterness and body. Additional herbs and spices are also added to the liqueur to ensure a complex flavour.
The final result is a pungent, flavoursome liqueur with notes of fresh espresso, bitter dark chocolate, fennel, aniseed, spice, roasted coffee bean, slight cream and fresh herbs.
An excellent pick-me-up at the end of a meal, this bottling would also make an interesting alternative to traditional coffee liqueurs in cocktails.
