Previously a travel retail exclusive, this is a big bottling of Maker’s Mark at a powerful proof of 101, or 50.5% ABV.
Made with the signature, highly wheated, Maker’s Mark family recipe, this bottling is based on the drams that were offered to visitors to the Star Hill Farm Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky for decades. The whiskey (or whisky in this case) is made with a mashbill of 70% corn, 14% malted barley, and 16% red winter wheat, which is what gives Maker’s Mark its distinct flavour.
The stronger iteration offers up notes of intense brown sugar and sweet oak, with bold cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg notes, accompanied by flavours of creamy honey, buttered bread, vanilla, red apples, peppery spice and charred oak.
A beauty of a dram, presented with the traditional red wax tip, and attractive gold labelling.
