When this bourbon first hit the shelves, it was the first new release from the Kentucky distillery in half a century! Famed for its bready, yeasty wheated bourbon, Maker’s Mark is also recognised around the world for its classic red wax dipped bottles. This whisky (the spelling that Maker’s prefers to use) is the product of over 46 different wood cask “recipe” experiments, with number 46 being the one the distillery settled on. The whisky is matured in charred new American oak barrels including a “ladder” of toasted French new oak staves. This technique grants the eventual whisky an extra layer of spice, making for a very delicious whisky indeed. Furthermore, this whisky is bottled at the slightly higher strength of 47%, making for a bold, flavoursome whisky that explodes on the palate. A truly spectacular whisky, and a must-try for fans of their standard release!
