A key part of the core range of Swedish distiller Mackmyra, who were founded in 1999.
Brukswhisky roughly translates as “Mill-whisky”, likely a reference to the Mackmyra premises having been a mill and power station in a previous life.
A rather fascinating release, this whisky has been matured in a mixture of first fill and refill former Bourbon casks, former sherry casks and Swedish oak casks. Due to the harsh climate in Sweden, Swedish oak is slow growing and expresses a fiery spice in the whisky. A touch of peated spirit is thrown into the mix as well.
The result is an interesting and complex dram, which serves up notes of liqourice, toffee, vanilla, bright apples and pears, lemons, a little smoke and some menthol zing.
A great offering for those looking to taste something a little different.
