An excellent Champagne from the esteemed Lallier house.
Part of the Lallier’s “Série R”, which presents the expression as a “deep Reflection on year’s harvest.”
R.06 contains mostly grapes from the 2016 vintage, in a split between 44% Chardonnay and 56% Pinot Noir. 14% of the bottling comprises of reserve wines from the 2010, 2012 and 2014 vintages.
The 2016 vintage was a demanding one for vintners, with cool spring accompanied by record rainfall, and early May frosts. The summer was very dry, producing one of the smallest yields in 20 years, although the remaining bunches were large, with terrific concentration of flavour.
The final result is a wine with bursting flavours of yellow peaches and green apple, subtle lemon and grapefruit, a little gentle spice, strawberries and balsamic, grape acidity and some caramel sauce.
Excellent when served with rich patés, roast chicken or figs with cheese.
