Lagavulin 12 Year Old’s annual appearance in the Diageo Special releases is something of a running tradition, and always eagerly awaited by whisky fans.

Like other bottlings in the 2020 Special Releases, this dram has been aged in refill American oak, and leans into the sweeter aspects of Lagavulin’s spirit.

The result is an smoky, ashy and spicy dram that offers notes of maritime peat, wood ash, iodine, orange rind, cut grass, apples, pears, drying oak, subtle vanilla and earthy spice. A full bodied, weighty dram that offers a fresh take on the Islay distillery, whilst retaining its classic character.

Bottled at a cask strength of 56.4%, this is a totally different beast to the standard 16 year old.
