A fascinating blended rye whisky from J.P. Wiser’s, Canada’s oldest continuously producing whisky company. This whisky has been aged in three different barrels: ex-bourbon, new oak and Canadian rye whisky barrels. The result is a wonderfully balanced, oaky, and full-bodied whisky with plenty of rye spice. Considering this is a ten year old whisky that has been matured in three casks, it represents excellent value for money. Delicious neat, or as a base in rye-based cocktails.
A total surprise and pleasure to sip neat! Notes of dark chocolate and dark toffee, orange and some very nice mintiness towards the finish, which is long. Great balance between bitter and sweet. Never gets cloying but wraps itself around you. Feels like a mixture of grade A Domenican rum and some gorgeous young bajan rum was thrown in here as well, giving controlled sweetness. My feeling is that much of the rye input here contributes to balancing the sweetness as well.
