A real rarity, this whiskey has proved itself difficult to source in recent years, particularly in Europe.
This is a ten year old, 100% rye whiskey from Jefferson’s, who have established themselves as something of a cult American whiskey brand with releases such as “Ocean” – aged at sea!
This whiskey, whilst bottled by an American company, featuring the name of a famous American founding father, was actually produced in Canada from Canadian rye. This is a surprisingly common practice, with Canadian rye ranked as some of the best rye grain in the world.
This whiskey has a little more age on it than the majority of ryes, and it certainly shows, with it being a flavoursome and delicious dram. The aggressive rye spice has been tempered a little by 10 years in oak casks, producing a whiskey delicately flavoured with notes of pine, herbs, toffee, cinnamon, menthol and sweet vanilla.
Excellent value for money, all rye fans should give this one a go.
