A tasty, summery aperitif from artisanal producer Jean-Luc Pasquet.
Pineau des Charantes is a kind of fortified wine or liqueur, that combines unfermented, or lightly fermented grape must with Cognac eau-de-vie. The style is highly similar to Mistelle.
Pasquet’s version uses a distilled of Ugni Blanc and Montils grapes, alongside the juice of red Bordeaux grapes. This combination is matured for at least a year in oak casks, ensuring that the flavours are integrated, and giving the final product a little more depth.
This bottling has a light pink colour, and serves up flavours of raspberry, red apples, sweet purple grape juice, a little nutty spice, gentle oak, pink grapefruit, strawberries, pomegranate and a little dried fruit.
Perfectly balanced, this is best enjoyed over ice or served chilled in small glasses. It would also work well in summery cocktails – we could see this pairing well with gin!
