A cracking bottling of fizz from the oldest surviving Champagne house in the region, Gosset.
Gosset was founded in 1584, originally producing red wines. They pivoted to Champagne in the 18th century, and are now considered one of the Grand Marques of Champagne production. Gosset are consistently rated as one of the top scoring Champagne houses.
Gosset Grande Reserve Brut is made with a blend of 46% Chardonnay, 39% Pinot Noir, and 15% Pinot Meunier. Of these, 12% are reserve wines with an average age of 2 years. Gosset use only Premier and Grand Cru grapes. Unusually they do not use malolactic fermentation. This Champagne has been riddled by hand and aged on lees for five years for complexity.
The Champagne pours a light gold colour with tiny, persistent bubbles and a creamy mousse. The wine offers notes of almond brioche, vanilla, toasted nuts, biscuits, pears, apples and sharp grapes. Rich, yet very dry and refreshing.
Pair this with seafood or chicken dishes, or drink it solo.
