One of the iconic rums of the Caribbean, first made way back in 1806, over 200 years ago. The rum takes its name not from its deep black colour, but from the wax seal that was originally used to ensure the bottles’ closure. This is strongly flavoured rum of surprisingly complexity. Produced using molasses distillate from both pot stills (typically a heavier style) and column stills (typically lighter), this is a rum of superb balance. Trademark law stipulates that Gosling Black Seal is the rum you must use for making a Dark and Stormy: a lovely high-ball style cocktail made with ginger beer, Gosling’s and a squeeze of lime. One that every rum drinker should try at least once, and that has a home in many a large collection!
