A lovely bottling which perhaps has an unfortunate reputation for being the “other” Campbeltown distillery. Glen Scotia themselves, produce an excellent quality of Campbeltown malt, with that classic, slightly maritime funk.
This 15 year old is no exception, a wonderfully flavoursome dram which has been aged in American oak casks picked to emphasis the fruity nature of Glen Scotia’s spirit.
Indeed, this is a whisky that serves up lots of fresh tropical and stone fruit flavours, accompanied by a slight smoke, citrus rind, fresh ginger, vanilla, wood spice, earthy oak and funk, and some maritime sea spray notes.
Glen Scotia 15 really benefits from both its extra time in the cask, lending a great complexity, and its 46% ABV strength, which ensures a greater intensity.
A delicious whisky from a sadly overlooked distillery.
