Part of the 2018 outturn of Connoisseurs Choice, which saw a radical rebrand from the stalwart bottlers Gordon and MacPhail.
This well-sherried offering is a bottling of Glen Elgin, known for decades for being a crucial part of the beloved White Horse blend. A highly traditional distillery, designed by the famous Charles Doig, and which has retained its worm tubs. A classic Speysider, with a creamy mouthfeel and honey-rich palate.
This particular bottling has enjoyed a marvelous 20 year maturation, having been distilled in 1997 and bottled in February 2018. Aging occurred in a single first fill sherry butt, resulting in a full, sherry-bomb profile.
Drinkers can expect notes of stewed fruits, fresh strawberries, cherries and plums, vanilla, woodspice, sweet wine and charred cask.
Bottled at a munificent 55.7%, and without colouring or chill filtration, this is an intense, rich and decadent whisky.
Another cracker from Gordon and MacPhail, that will appeal to lovers of a sherried dram. Just 602 bottles were produced.
