Giboin Cognac is a marvelous small scale producer, with a great record of producing delicious bottles at very reasonable prices. This bottling of VSOP Cognac uses grapes from the Fins Bois cru, which is similar in soil to the world-renowned Champagne crus, enjoying a similar level of clay, chalk, acidity and limestone as these more famous regions. The effect of this soil is to create a fruit forward, intensely flavoured grape, ideal for making heavier, complex Cognacs. Grapes from the Fins Bois cru are often used as the basis for Cognac blends, due to these qualities. This being a single varietal offering, the drinker has a wonderful opportunity to understand the profile of this grape that will make up the backbone of so many of their favourite Cognacs. This is a VSOP Cognac, and therefore has been aged for at least 4 years in oak casks, imparting marvelous notes of vanilla, woodspice and caramel and rounding off the fruity spirit. A truly delicious Cognac, at a great price.
