Giboin produce some excellent cognac, yet have kept something of a low profile in the Cognac world. This interesting bottling uses grapes from the Fins Bois cru, which has a lot of soil similarity to the prestigious Champagne crus. Fins Bois has a clay-like, chalky soil with a little limestone and a vivid red colour. Due to this soil, Fins Bois grapes are intensely flavoured, and produce a fruit-forward, well balanced Cognac. They are often used as the basis for Cognac blends, providing excellent depth. This Fins Bois Cognac is no exception, a heavily flavoured spirit, with rich fruit flavours and a touch of warming vanilla-laden cask. Being a single varietal offering, this bottling offers a great chance to get to grips with this cru-style. This is a VS Cognac, meaning it has spent at least two years in French oak casks, mellowing the more volatile, and rounding the spirit out nicely. Absurdly good value for money!
