This beautiful slim bottle comes from Frapin, and is produced at Château de Fontpinot- perhaps the best regarded Cognac House in the Grand Champagne region. This is a single-estate Cognac- for those unfamiliar with the term, this is the Cognac equivalent of a single malt, and is considered by connoisseurs the best way of experiencing both a Cognac region and a producer’s house-style. As in the world of Scotch, the industry is largely dominated by ubiquitous blend powerhouses, and single-estate Cognacs such as this lovely Frapin are even rarer than the now resurgent single malts. This is a particularly delicious bottling, containing extremely old eaux-de-vie and utterly decadent in flavours of dried fruit, oak panelling and leather. The smaller bottle here gives more drinkers an inexpensive way of getting to grips with single-estate Cognac.
