Named after the legendary creation of Cervantes, Don Quixote, this bottling from Serralles is the archetype of an aged Puerto Rican rum.
The rum is notable for being common to classic Tiki recipes, with the first Pina Colada said to be made with Don Q.
This rum has been aged for between 3 and 8 years in American oak casks, following Don Q’s multi distillation production, which produces a dry, clean spirit. The spirit was distilled in column stills, and has been gently filtered with carbon.
The final product is a rum that offers up notes of vanilla, cocoa, dark chocolate, dry molasses, dried pineapple and mango, some banana sweetness, bright oak, cinnamon, apples, a touch of flowers and some dried apricot.
A delicious rum that is ideal for both mixing and sipping, this bottling is an excellent example of the “dry, yet sweet” style that column still rums can have.
Don Q is a bestseller in its home country, and extremely popular in the US, with good reason.
