A quite incredible bottling that emphasises terroir. This is a cognac made using grapes grown on the Île de Ré, a tiny island in the Atlantic ocean, off the the coast of Cognac and lying in the Bois à Terroirs/Bois Ordinaires cru. This release enjoys a second maturation in the Fort de La Prée, an imposing star-shaped fort, situated very close to the shoreline – hence the Cognac’s name. This gives the cognac a distinct maritime quality, which pairs excellently well with the sweetness of the grape and the darker, woody notes of the French oak cask. A fascinating cognac that every brandy drinker should try.
