Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Guatemalan Botran rum company is this excellent gift set.

The idea was to give Botran’s loyal customers the opportunity to become a Master Blender in their own home. The set contains a 500ml bottle of Botran Gran Reserva, which has been matured in a solera system of up to 30 years old. The system contains 5 different types of barrels: port, sherry, two different kinds of Bourbon barrel and a mystery South American wine barrel.

The rum itself delivers wonderful flavours of oak, pressed flowers, dried fruits, tropical fruit, port, sherry, wine tannins, orange rind, chocolate, cigar smoke, and spice.

The big bottling is accompanied by two smaller bottles of flavoured rum: ‘B’ – which contains spiced rum flavoured with cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon; and ‘C’ – which has been blended with citrus ingredients, including orange peel, grapefruit peel and lime peel. The idea is that using the little dropper that accompanies the rum, the drinker can subtly change the flavour with the use of the smaller bottles of flavourings.

The drinker can use just one of the flavoured rums, both, more of one and less of the other, or none at all! The joy is in the flexibility of this product.

The set is beautifully presented in a gift box, which also includes a pen and notepad, so that all the would-be Master Blenders can record their findings!
