Frist introduced way back in 1959, as the name suggests this is the first gin in the Bombay range, the forerunner of the ubiquitous Bombay Sapphire. Like Bombay Sapphire, this bottling features a portrait of Queen Victoria looking stern and imperious, but lacks the distinctive blue-glass bottle. There are further differences too: this gin is made from a recipe dating back to 1761, which calls for only 8 botanicals, as opposed to the 10 found in Bombay Sapphire. There are many out there that still believe that this original, and the best! And as such continue to buy this stalwart of the gin scene. An excellent, zesty and fresh gin, which represents exceptional value for money and a would be perfect for any budding home-bartender.
