After some time away from making selections, r/Scotch is back for more. Embarking on the first peated, and sherried, expression, this single cask comes with great acclaim and overwhelming panel support.
r/Scotch's Ballechin was distilled in 2009 and aged for 11 years in a First Fill Sherry cask. Bottled at cask strength, with no coloring or filtering, by The Ultimate Whisky Company.
This single cask is pure Ballechin character, aided by lush wine influence. Notes of berry, syrupy fig, ash and oak are first on the palate, while notes of blackberry, currant, light burning wood and vanilla develop over time. Long, succulent, finish that blends ashy smoke character and sweet jammy sherry notes masterfully. Drinkers who fear the base malt character falling to an overwhelming wine influence can rest easy as this cask balances two extremes with ease.
Selected by a panel from Aficionados Group and r/Scotch for the r/Scotch whiskey community online.
