Previously known as “Barcardi Black”, this bottling bears the tagline “superior black rum”, and is lovely, aged expression from the Puerto Rican distillery. This is the partner-bottling to the unaged, vibrant Carta Blanca.
Barcardi continues to be family owned, and indeed, it is both the largest rum distillery in the world, and the largest family owned business in the spirits industry, beating out the likes of Scotland’s William Grant and Sons.
Though production moved to Puerto Rico following the Cuban Revolution, this rum retains a Cuban style, with a light fruitiness, and slightly drying finish.
This darker spirit is ideal for mixing with cola, as it possesses notes of nutmeg, dark fruit, oak, molasses, toffee and ground coffee. Carta Negra also makes for a great, affordable sipping rum.
A centerpiece of the Bacardi range, and with good reason, this is a superbly made spirit.
