The 2016 edition and sixth batch of Arran’s much loved Machrie Moor line. This bottling sports a redesigned and striking new label. The design is inspired by the legend of the warrior giant Fingal and his faithful hound, Bran. Fingal is said to have tied his dog up using the hole in one of the standing stones set in Machrie Moor. Machrie Moor itself is an extensive peat bog found on the west of the island. A fitting story and name for a powerfully flavoured whisky peated to about 20ppm. Arran is a relatively young distillery, but they continue to impress with releases like these. This whisky offers up typical coastal characteristics of sea spray and an oily mouthfeel, accompanied by wonderful tropical fruit flavours. A strong peatiness takes hold on the palate, offset against barley-rich biscuit notes, and citrus rind. A delicious dram that will appeal to fans of Islay whiskies particularly. This whisky is bottled at 46% and without either colouring or chill filtration.
