A marvellous single malt whisky from an unusual source! This is a French single malt, produced in Brittany at the Warengham distillery. Like Scotland and Ireland, proud whisky-making nations, Brittany has a strong Celtic heritage. The distillery has been in action since 1900, but is better known for producing liqueurs and fruit-base eau-de-vie, only recently entering the whisky market. This particular offering has been aged in a Sherry cask. Warengham age their spirit like wine, in a cellar, making for a subtle and slow aging process that creates real complexity in their drams. On the nose, this dram offers aromas of warm sherried fruit, plums, sultanas, black tea, bread, rounded off with a little hazelnut and almonds. The palate is rich and thick, with a creamy mouthfeel. Here the fruits appear jammy and thick, with a lovely strength of flavour. The finish is long and lingering, with sherried sweetness and woodspice. Like other Armorik whiskies, this whisky is presented without chill filtration, and at 46% ABV, which really gives the flavours a boost!
