One of the very finest aged rums on the market.
Appleton Estate are well established for being of the best rum producers in the Caribbean. This is doubtless a spirit that sits towards the top of their standard range. Unlike many rums, the age statement on this bottling indicates the minimum age of the spirit in the blend, rather than an average age.
This is a small batch production drawn from a select number of barrels. Each release is numbered.
The spirit itself is simply delicious, with an extraordinary richness and incredible creamy mouthfeel. Despite its outstanding age, the rum avoids being overoaked, with excellent balance between cask and spirit.
Drinkers should expect notes of rancio, raisins, stewed pears and dried fruit, dark oak, citrus fruit, baking spices, molasses and burnt sugar. Stand-out flavours of chai, peaches and tropical fruit round out the finish. These notes are given something of a boost by the bump in proof to 43% ABV.
Without a doubt one of the best rums we’ve ever tasted, this is not one to be missed.
