Speyside distillery Aberlour is well known for their heavily sherried whiskies, yet their white oak series bucks the trend, presented their whisky after maturation in former Bourbon casks, made of quercus alba – white oak.
This bottling was distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2018, giving it an age of roughly ten years. It is fascinating to taste a whisky that more closely presents the flavour of Aberlour’s spirit, without sherry influence. Attentive drinkers will find there is still plenty of Aberlour character here.
The whisky delivers notes of orchard fruits, warm malt, hay, some slight Christmas spice, tropical fruits, clean vanilla, toasted coconut, toffee, cream and almonds.
Different, yet delicious.
