A shining light of the Aberlour range, this is a real beauty from the venerable Speyside distillers.
This heavily sherried whisky has been matured for 12 years, and is packed with rich, nutty fruity flavours.
The sherry cask has also brought notes of dark chocolate, espresso, raisins and warming spice.
As the title suggests, this whisky is non chill filtered, meaning that all the delicious oils and flavours are kept in the spirit. It is also bottled at the higher proof of 48% ABV. This makes for a thicker, creamier mouthfeel, and a fuller flavour from the whisky.
As this whisky is non chill filtered, it may get a little cloudy if diluted with water or chilled.
A top quality release, which shows the distillery’s spirit at its very best.
My favourite whisky. Ever. Can't get it in England. A splash of water is all it needs to release the flavours, and what flavours there are. Sometimes I'm drinking Christmas pudding, others the finest Seville oranges. Superb.
Nose: Plums, charred red fruit, caramel and warm hay. Some dark chocolate, and apples with heavy helpings of cinnamon and cloves. Slight figs.
Palate: Fiery delivery, very nutty Oloroso with plums and figs. Nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves dominate the palate. Snapping caramel frames the background. Very slight chili powder.
Finish: Long, heavily spiced high quality dark chocolate.
Overall: An excellent expression of the Aberlour juice, given a higher proof and a thicker mouthfeel. This is a huge sherry bomb, exploding on the palate with spice and fruits. Very impressive stuff.
