A tremendous blended malt from whisky bottlers and blenders Ian Macleod. This whisky combined malt whisky from 6 different Islands: Arran, Islay, Jura, Mull, Orkney and Skye. In 2004 Jim Murray said, “The best standard, non-deluxe vatted malt I have found in my lifetime.” As such this is a coastal, briny and peaty whisky, with a beautiful earthy quality.
On the nose, this whisky opens with bright heather honey notes, before an earthy, brininess takes hold, with a wisp of dense peat. The palate is powerfully peaty and intense, with a chewy earthy note, a little vanilla woodspice and some lovely toffee. On the finish, the coastal nature takes hold again, with lip-smacking and lasting salinity. A fantastic insight into the aromas and flavours of Scotland’s islands. Benefits from being bottled at the slightly higher strength of 43% ABV.
