A wonderful single malt whisky produced by the Master Blender of Whyte & Mackay Whisky Company, Richard “The Nose” Paterson. Paterson is famous for his work with Dalmore (with whom he also produced a Cigar Malt) and for having some of the best blending abilities in the business. He is also a great cigar aficionado, knowing exactly what is required of a good cigar pairing dram! This is one such whisky, as illustrated by the Cuban colours on the box. This lovely dram has been aged in a combination of former sherry and bourbon casks, resulting in tremendous balance. On the nose, this whisky opens with aromas of rich sherry, toffee, red fruit, apples and pears, vanilla and dark oak. On the palate there is a slight barrel char and burnt oak flavour, with the wonderful sherried fruit of the nose, a little vanilla custard and a thick buttery mouthfeel. The finish is long, rich in sherry flavours, with a little woodspice and lingering smoke. Bottled at 46% ABV, this whisky is presented without chill filtration, allowing the flavours to really sing! A lovely one to pair with a Habano, but equally enjoyable for non-smokers to drink by itself.
