The Bitter Truth were originally a company that just made different varieties of cocktail bitters to add to mixed drinks. They have now diversified into making their own delicious spirits, much to the benefit of all.
Given this background it makes perfect sense for the company to produce their own pink gin. This is one of the all time classic cocktails, first created by the men of the Royal Navy. It involves washing a glass with angostura bitters, then pouring in very cold gin, so it produces a pink colour. Traditionally made with a sweeter gin, this was supposed to encourage the consumption of angostura, which was thought to improve sea sickness.
The Bitter Truth’s version is a little more complex, producing a spirit with a “Mediterranean bouquet” and notes of juniper, liquorice, caraway, fennel, warming spices and citrus rind.
Bottled with a delightfully maritime label, we suggest serving this gin straight up and extremely chilled, though it does make a nice twist on a classic gin and tonic.
