A revival edition of this famous blend from Japanese distilling giants, Nikka.
The first “Super” blend was created by Nikka’s founder Masataka Taketsuru in 1961, to celebrate the life of his wife Rita. Masataka and Rita met in Scotland whilst the former was touring distilleries to learn his trade, and she followed him back to Japan. Sadly Rita also died in 1961, first prompting Masataka to create this dram. In 2015 a bottle of this original blend was discovered, and Nikka’s expert blenders set about recreating it. This bottling was recreated specially for the European market.
Super Nikka combines spirit from Nikka’s world famous Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. The blend has been partially aged in sherry casks, to add a little more flavour and depth.
The final result delivers notes of rich toasted spice, pot pourri, old sherry, oak, ginger, cloves, lemon rind, vanilla, very faint peat, dried fruits, cereal sweetness, raspberry and a little blackcurrant.
A really impressive blend from Nikka, which benefits from the kick in proof up to 43% ABV.
A testament to the skills of Nikka’s blenders.
