One of the few distilleries to enjoy near-universal acclaim from drinkers, Springbank continues to produce malt whisky of the highest quality. This, their entry level expression sets the tone for the rest of their fabulous range. A delicious Campbeltown whisky, this has been matured in a mixture of bourbon and sherry casks. The nose serves up wonderful aromas of sweet barley, earthy funk and slight peat. On the palate salinity and fruity flavours take hold, particularly mango and pineapples, with a chewy peat rounding off the finish. One of the all time great value whiskies, Springbank 10 is bottled at 46% ABV, and without chill filtration or colouration. Superb stuff.
Nose: Lots of dry oak aromas, peat is present with salinity and pungent earth. Pineapple, pears and mangos come through after a while. Malty sweetness in the background.
Palate: Fruity peat hits big, followed by a dark nuttiness and rich smoke. Coastal funk, with more pineapple from the nose.
Finish: Long with more coastal notes and heather honey.
Overall: A lovely little dram, packs a lot of flavours into a seemingly simple package. A surprising and exciting sherry + bourbon matured whisky, from a distillery that continues to impress.
