A fascinating rye whisky from Slyrs, a distillery based in Bavaria, in Southern Germany.
This bottling has been made with a base of spicy rye grain, and aged in “crocodile toast” American oak casks. These barrels are so called because the level of char on the oak means they resemble a crocodile’s skin. Such a high level of char produces a strong, somewhat smoky flavour in the spirit, whilst also cleansing it from impurities.
The final result is a sweet, fruity rye with notes of pears, chopped herbs, cinnamon spice, dark charred oak, vanilla, pressed flowers, cracked pepper, honey and toasted bread.
A high quality rye from an unusual source.
The tasting notes in the description perfectly fit. This is beyond fantastic.
