A wonderful addition to the Sheep Dip range of blended malts, this whisky puts the emphasis on the peat smoke of Islay. Featuring a new green label, the name is a reference to when farmer-distillers would avoid paying excise on their barrels of whisky by labelling them “sheep dip” – a type of pesticide used on sheep. This is what was previously known as a vatted malt – that is, a blend of whisky from different distilleries but of only malt, there is no grain whisky used here. This creates a whisky of extraordinary complexity and balance. On the nose this whisky opens with aromas of strong, earthy peat, sea spray, vanilla, toasted oak, astringent fruit and apricots. The palate is dense, smoky and sweet, with woodspice and vanilla oak coming to the fore. This is accompanied by toffee, salted caramel and smouldering green wood. The finish is long, rich and smoky, with a satisfying lasting peat. A top quality whisky from the good folk at Sheep Dip!
