A beautiful looking, and tasting, mystery Islay single malt, first launched for Fèis ìle 2019.
Produced by the famed Hunter Laing bottlers and blenders, little is known about this smoky tipple. Scarabus comes from the Old Norse meaning “rocky place”, and is named after an area of Islay said to have spiritual importance.
The dram delivers notes of rich, sweet peat, heather honey, dried fruits, some singed malt, a little cut grass, sea spray, black tea, a little leather, lemon juice, vanilla, salted nuts and cracked black pepper.
Bottled at 46% ABV and without chill filtration or colouration, this is a well made, if enigmatic dram.
Superb value for money too!
