Known as “Baby Saz” amongst American whiskey aficionados, paying respect to the Sazerac release that forms part of the annual Buffalo Trace Antique Collection outturn.
Nevertheless, this is a very fine whiskey in its own right! A marvelously robust, spicy rye, produced by the world-famous Buffalo Trace distillery, the bottling takes its name from the coffee house in New Orleans which gave us one of the finest cocktails ever invented.
This whiskey is said to be around 6 years old, and has been aged in American new oak casks. A sweeter style of rye whiskey, drinkers should expect flavours of maple syrup, cinnamon, clove, menthol, grass, pepper, nutmeg, toffee apples and gentle oak.
It will come as no surprise that this whiskey makes a cracking Sazerac, but it is also fantastic in Manhattans, or drunk neat. It doesn’t hurt that it has one of the best looking bottles around and is bottled at a warming 45% ABV.
