A stunning rum from Ron La Progresiva, a brand produced by the Island Rum company.
Ron La Progresiva literally translates as ‘The Progressive Rum’ – and they are, using a female team of master blenders to create their bottlings. The spirit is made with molasses from cane grown in the red soil of Ciego de Ávila, the central province of Cuba. The rum is distilled at Enrique Varona, under the name Ron Vigia (the name taken from Ernest Hemingway’s Havana farm, known as La Vinca Vigia, or “the lookout”). Mezcla – not Mezcal! – means blend or mixture in Spanish, and refers to the fact that this was the 13th blend created in product testing.
Three rums are found in this blend, an 11 year old, a 13 year old and a 15 year old, which have been distilled in multi-column stills and aged in former Bourbon barrels in the Cuban climate.
The rum offers flavours of rich dried figs, raisins, toasted nuts, grapefruit juice, orange zest, tobacco leaf, milk chocolate, cinnamon, bananas, fresh pastries, treacle tart, creamy coffee, subtle chili, pressed flowers, vanilla and freshly cracked black pepper.
A complex, delicious rum, beautifully presented in this stubby styled bottled.
