A good quality white Agricole from Guadaloupe.
It’s no baloney! Rhum Bologne is a mighty fine spirit, taking its name from the de Bologne family, a French-Dutch house who first settled in Brazil, only to flee when the Portuguese invaded. They eventually ended up in Guadaloupe in 1654, where they established a sugar refinery in the Soufrière hills. Here, Rhum Agricole was also made, from the fermented juice of the sugar cane.
And although the site has had its ups and downs since, it continues to produce spirit, with this bottling an excellent example.
The rum offers up notes of powdered white sugar, grassy cane, vanilla, lime rind, almonds, toffee and peppery spice.
A great mixing rum that makes a mean Ti’ Punch!
