A top quality gift set from esteemed blenders and bottlers, Douglas Laing.
This pack contains miniature bottlings of Douglas Laing’s Remarkable Regional Malts series of blended malt whiskies. They are: Rock Oyster from the Island region, Scallywag from the Speyside region, Timorous Beastie from the Highland Region, the Epicurean from the Lowland region and Big Peat from Islay.
Big Peat is the most popular bottling in the Remarkable Regional Malt range. Made with whisky from Bowmore, Caol Ila, Ardbeg and the closed (soon to be reopened!) Port Ellen, this is an intensely peaty and delicious whisky. Big Peat offers huge medicinal, sweet peat and ashy flavours, perfectly capturing the essence of Islay.
Rock Oyster contains spirit from the isles of Orkney, Jura, Arran and Islay. A light, coastal dram, this whisky offers notes of sea spray, oat cake, slight ashy peat, grapes, green apples, oily funk and peppery spice.
Scallywag is another whisky that is bound to be popular, capturing the flavours of the Speyside region with whiskies from Glenrothes, Mortlach and the prestigious Macallan. These have been aged in a combination of sherry butts and former Bourbon barrels, producing a balanced blended malt with flavours of nutmeg, cereal spice, vanilla and orchard fruits.
Timorous Beastie, named after the Robert Burns poem ‘To a Mouse’ is a sophisticated Highland dram, containing spirit from Dalmore, Glengoyne and Glen Garioch, amongst other distilleries. The whisky serves up flavours of sweet heather honey, bread, malt, spice and dried fruits.
The final miniature is the Epicurean, a Lowland blended malt, which captures the spirit of the twin cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh – found in the region. Made with malt spirit from the region, the whisky has flavours of bright flowers, grass, straw and vanilla. Crisp and light.
Each of the whiskies are bottled over 46% ABV and without chill filtration or colouration.
A wonderful tour of Scotland from Douglas Laing, this would be an excellent gift for any scotch whisky fan.
