Hans Reisetbauer, also known as Mr. R., is a distiller based in his family farm in the Austrian town of Axberg. Here he has produced spirits and Eau de Vie since 1994, using the top quality fruits grown on his orchards. Reisetbauer has quickly gained a reputation for producing some of the very best Eau de Vie on the globe. After several years of distilling these wonderful spirits, Hans Reisetbauer decided to create a gin. The Blue Gin starts with some of the softest water on the planet, and is distilled strictly using locally grown soft winter “Mulan” wheat. The gin is made using only the heart of the spirit, never re-distilling the volatile heads and tails, the finished gin being clean, pure and soft. Originally this gin used over 50 different botanicals were used to create a maddeningly complex first batch. After several more batches, Mr. Reisetbauer settled on 27 botanicals, centred around a bittersweet core of Macedonian Juniper. The gin is citrusy and spritely, with a lovely peppery spice, a soft wheaty note, and a wonderful bittersweet finish. A really flavoursome and well-made gin, and superb value for money!
