A fearsome straight whiskey! This rye eschews balance in favour of pure rye spice! Made with a mashbill of 95% rye grain, this definitely offers up big flavours and intensity. Aged for two years in fresh American oak casks, the whiskey is bottled at 46%, and is non chill filtered, meaning all the lovely rye notes are going straight into the glass. A great one to drink as a pick-me-up at the end of an evening, or to use for mixing in cocktails. On the nose this whiskey is spicy: a chilli, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla all leap up out of the glass, with a little barrel char smoke wisping through. The palate is rich with toasted spices, here a little star anise joins those from the nose, with some bittersweet coffee and dark chocolate. The finish offers up more of that classic rye spice, leaving a slightly bready mouthfeel. A cracking rye: the slim bottle with the big flavours!
