Another excellent solera produced rum from importers Oliver y Oliver, the Punta Cana XOX. This is an XO rum, however, the extra X at the end of the rum’s title is something of a mystery! This rum has been aged in a solera, with the age statement saying 25 years. As this is a solera this is likely to be an average age rather than a Scotch-whisky style age of the youngest spirit in the blend. Nevertheless, this is a very tasty Dominican rum, that celebrates the company’s move from Cuba to the Dominican Republic. After initial maturation this rum is finished for between 3 to 6 months in former Port wine casks. This is a rich and intense rum, with massive notes of butterscotch and vanilla, with some red fruit sweetness and a few floral notes. The rum is presented in a handsome bottle, and is a welcome addition to any rum collection.
