Yet another tasty looking gin from Spain!
This gin is produced by the Puerto de Indias distillery in Seville, which is better known as a maker of Anisette and Patxaran (a type of Basque sloe spirit) liqueurs. The distillery has been in the game since 1880, and is one of the oldest in the region.
Puerto de Indias’ Strawberry Gin was supposedly made accidently: the distillery had been attempting to make a strawberry liqueur, but after this endeavour failed, the Master Distiller added the mashed up berries to a new make gin. Errors are portals of discovery, and the combination worked beautifully, creating a blush pink gin with plenty of delicious berry flavours.
The gin is made using strawberries from the Andalusian region of Huelva, which is said to be home to the best fruit in Europe.
The final product is a light, sweet gin with notes of ripe strawberries, orange juice, faint botanicals (juniper and liquorice particularly), mandarin, pink grapefruits, cherries, boiled sweets and slight herbs.
The pink gin trend shows no sign of slowing, and whilst this is not one for the gin purists, it is a delectable offering that does well in summery G&T’s.
