A Dominican rum produced by the esteemed spirit importers Oliver y Oliver.
José Martí, the namesake of this rum, is a national hero of Cuba, who was a poet and essayist. Martí was best known for championing the cause of Cuban independence in the late 19th Century, so much so that he acquired the title the “Apostle of Cuban Independence”.
Whilst this rum is in fact from the Dominican Republic (Oliver and Oliver had to leave Cuba after the Revolution) the bottling remains a fitting tribute to Martí. The poet travelled to the Dominican Republic, and emphasised in his works the intellectual independence of all the Hispanic people of the Americas.
The rum itself is an Añejo offering which has been aged in a solera system. The bottling offers flavours of soft brown sugar, vanilla, dried mango and banana, chocolate, peppery spice, dried fruit and bright oak.
Another winner from Oliver y Oliver.
