Produced by the superb Poli Grappa family, who has been making spirits since 1898, this is a fantastic gin which uses a dizzying array of rare and unusual botanicals. This gin takes name from the revolutionary Italian scientist Guglielmo Marconi, who won the Nobel prize for Physics in 1909 and invented the telegraph. The gin itself is artisanally distilled using a newly created vacuum bain-marie pot still called Crysopea. The spirit uses a unique infusion of muscat grape, mountain pine, min, cembra pine, cardamom, coriander and juniper berries, designed to recall the Asiago plateau, north of the Veneto region from where the Poli family originate. Bottled at 46% ABV, as the name suggests (furthermore, the distillery is located at number 46 Marconi Street), this allows the flavours of these botanicals to resonate. The gin is packaged in a charming swing-top bottle embossed with the foundation year of the Poli family’s operation. The gin is juniper forward and woody, and is one of those rare premium gins that is delicious enough to be enjoyed on its own. Definitely one for the purists out there.
