A delicious blended Cuban rum which has been finished in French oak red wine casks.
Pacto Navio is made with a base of various aged Cuban rums. The spirit has then been transferred into red wine casks for a finishing period, developing a wonderful fruity profile. The rum’s name reflects this method, which has been historically practiced in Cuba.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, French ships used to sail to Cuba, bringing with them wine barrels. These ships were nicknamed “navios”. The wine would be decanted, and the barrels refilled with fine Cuban rum, which would continue to mature in the former wine casks, gaining a unique flavour profile.
The Napoleonic wars threatened this trade in the early 1800s, until a new peace agreement was signed – “El Pacto” – in 1815. With the signing of this treaty, the Navios returned to Cuba, hence the name “Pacto Navio”.
The rum itself serves up notes of brown sugar, dried fruits, pineapple, bananas, toffee, dark red fruits (cranberries, strawberries and raspberries), vanilla, dark chocolate, oak, leather and tobacco smoke.
A wonderful fruity rum.
