Omar perhaps has an unfair reputation as the “other” Taiwanese distillery. Nevertheless, this a lovely dram, produced at the Nantou state owned distillery, who first starting distilling whisky in 2008.
This single malt whisky has been aged entirely in former Bourbon American oak casks, giving it a wonderfully full body and oily mouthfeel, alongside notes of toffee, vanilla, orange peel and nutmeg.
What’s more, the whisky has been bottled at 46% ABV, and without chill filtration or artificial colouration. Despite being owned by the Taiwanese government as part of their behemoth Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corporation, Nantou have approached this whisky with a craft production.
Another fantastic world whisky for drinkers to try.
