Moonshine has a strong claim to being the original American spirit: white whiskey was made by early settlers and poor farmers as a means of using surplus product. Indeed, as Ole Smoky says, “Moonshine is as American as Apple Pie!” With this in mind, the Tennessee company has combined the two, creating a Moonshine flavoured with the taste of apple pie. To do this they blend neutral spirit with pure natural apple juice, cinnamon, and other classic baking spices to create a truly American flavour profile. This is part of a growing spirits trend of flavoured whiskey and plays its role very well, with a lovely moreish fruity character and a nice depth of flavour provided by the spirituous base. We enjoy this served over ice with a slice of apple, or as an alternative Old Fashioned with brown sugar and bitters. It also pairs excellently with ginger ale as a refreshing high-ball. This is a 500ml bottle, presented at a refreshing strength of 20% ABV.
