A very interesting rum indeed, not sourced from the Caribbean or the Pacific, but from India! This excellent rum is aged for 12 years in oak casks, in the incredible tropical heat of India. It is distilled from molasses, this is little known outside of its home country, but due to the population and drinking habits of that nation, remains one of the best-selling rums in the world! Remarkably, this rum is packaged in a bottle shaped like a monk – habit and all! Would make a tremendous novelty item for any home bar, but thankfully the rum contained is also delicious. The nose brings thick, sugar and maple notes, with some spicy aromas and dense oak. The palate is chewy, with a tower of molasses flavours, espresso, cola, toffee, vanilla and slightly bitter stewed tea. The finish drying and long, with vanilla and cigar smoke. Top stuff and a lot of fun!
I hope to try.
